The puns will continue until morale improves?
Candle Arc and related progress
Nearly done with the animation script after getting unstuck on the ending, yay! I’m easing into production on the 2D animation sequences in ToonSquid, plus scratch vocals for Acts 1-3 for a sanity check on timing.
Working on Candle Arc #2 (comic), which doubles as storyboarding lite for the animated short as I mosey out of preproduction. The Candle Arc comic is likely to run five or six (short, 8-page) issues.
I’m re/formatting Ninefox: Prelude #1 (Cheris’s AU reboot backstory, now with bonus heresy) for Ka-Blam. Candle Arc #1 files are currently being processed over there for print on demand, fingers crossed! Continuing Ninefox: Prelude is on the to-do list when I’m not buried under orchestration homework. I estimate it’ll run three or four (short, 8-page) issues total.
Meanwhile, Aggro Goose has opinions on narrative techniques and narrative as technology while spinning ramie, but needs a better mic/recording setup or to level the vocals. Sorry they’re faint: live and learn?!
Currently listening to:
Currently playing:
- Balatro, still. It’s comforting!
Currently reading & recently read:
- Nick Montfort’s Twisty Little Passages: An Approach to Interactive Fiction. Reread, a.k.a. guess who’s trying to wrap up an academic writing summative essay. :p
- Penny Walsh’s Spinning, Dyeing, and Weaving in a series of “self-sufficiency” books: useful information on fiber preparation and dyeing, among other things.
- Matthew Wilson’s The Hidden Language of Symbols. (Yes, this is a different book from the aforementioned Symbols in Art, confusingly, but the same author?)
- Alichino vol. 1. Thanks to Eller for the rec! Gorgeous art, absolutely correct that this has fabulous examples of use of value and spot blacks.
- The Villainess and the Demon Knight vol. 1 (NSFW). Manga adaptation of a light novel series. It goes from zero to :ahem: within mere pages; absolutely delightful, wryly funny, love the character work, but let’s not pretend I’m not here for the very explicitly adult content. I can’t wait until October when my discretionary budget resets so I can pick up vol. 2!
Currently spinning:
- Ramie. :3 Like silk, because I spin it fine, it takes forever to half-fill a bobbin. (Only half because I like to two-ply.)
I have a lovely autumnal wool/bamboo blend from my one fiber subscription that I’m itching to spin next! Someday, lotus silk (a bast fiber) or line flax (also a bast fiber) will be in the budget. ๐ Plus an uhinged amount of alpaca, mohair, and wool to process from raw, obtained from a local farmer, which should set me up for spinning those fibers for the rest of 2025, easy.
Currently watching:
- Apothecary Diaries, and I’m disturbed how much I know about toxicology just from writer research. Not a lot, but more than seems reasonable!
I’m excited about David Drake’s Redliners [legal free ebook at Baen Books]. I have promised myself that I get to start it after I finish Some Book, Any Book on the TBR pile! Drake’s Rolling Hot was my gateway drug into his Hammer’s Slammers military science fiction series. Redliners isn’t in that series (that I know of), but I’m stoked for it regardless.
Yours in calendrical heresy,
YHL
